Acne Treatment in Stone Oak, San Antonio

A three-month program pairing in-office treatment with prescription care — because acne is a medical condition, and facials alone do not resolve it.

Why this is a program and not an appointment

Acne is driven by oil production, follicular blockage, bacteria, and inflammation. A single treatment addresses one of those temporarily. Meaningful improvement requires sustained treatment across a skin cycle, which takes weeks, not days.

Anyone selling a facial as an acne solution is selling you a month of feeling better and no change to the underlying condition.

What the program includes

An initial medical assessment, prescription topical or oral therapy where appropriate, in-office treatment every four weeks, and a monthly review to adjust based on what your skin is actually doing.

We also review your current products. A significant share of stubborn adult acne is worsened by something already in the routine.

The single biggest reason acne treatment fails is stopping during the six weeks when it looks worse.

It gets slightly worse before it gets better

Most effective acne therapy causes purging in the first four to six weeks as congestion beneath the surface clears. This is expected and is not a reaction.

The single biggest reason acne treatment fails is stopping during this window. We tell you up front so you are not surprised into quitting.

When we refer you out

Severe nodulocystic acne, or acne that has not responded to appropriate therapy, may need isotretinoin and dermatology supervision.

If that is what you need, we will say so and help you get there rather than keep you in a program that will not be enough. Scarring is permanent, and delay costs more than a referral does.

Common questions

Acne program, answered plainly.

How long until I see improvement?

Four to six weeks for the first real change, with substantial improvement typically at three months. The first month can look worse.

Do you prescribe medication?

Yes, where appropriate. Dr. Aguirre assesses and prescribes as part of the program.

Will this fix my acne scarring?

No. Scarring is treated separately, with microneedling or resurfacing, and only once acne is controlled. Treating scars during active breakouts wastes the treatment.

Do you treat teenagers?

Yes. Patients under 18 are seen with the consent and presence of a parent or legal guardian, who stays for the consultation and reviews the plan with us. Teenage acne responds well to treatment, and treating it early is the most reliable way to avoid scarring.

What if it does not work?

We reassess at each visit and change approach. If you need isotretinoin or dermatology care, we will refer you rather than continue a program that is not enough.
