Medical Weight Management in Stone Oak, San Antonio
A programme run by a physician board certified in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine — assessment, labs where indicated, and medication only where it is clinically appropriate for you.
Who is running your programme
Dr. Aguirre is board certified in Obesity Medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and in Family Medicine — dedicated training and examination in metabolic health and medication management, on top of a full primary care residency.
That is not a common credential. Most medically supervised weight programmes are run by clinicians whose training in obesity medicine is incidental to another specialty. Ask anyone offering you weight loss medication what their training in it actually is.
Medical, not commercial
Weight is influenced by hormones, medications, sleep, thyroid function, insulin resistance, and genetics — not willpower alone. A program that ignores those is selling you something.
This begins with an actual medical assessment, including labs where indicated, before anything is prescribed.
What the program involves
An initial physician visit, individualized planning, and monthly follow-up to track progress and adjust. Nutrition and activity guidance is part of it, not an afterthought.
The programme is cash-pay; your prescriptions and labs may not be. Medication is filled at your own pharmacy and laboratory work goes to an outside laboratory, so depending on your plan those costs may run through your insurance rather than out of pocket.
Where prescription therapy is clinically appropriate, it is prescribed and monitored properly — with attention to dosing, side effects, and the muscle loss that can accompany rapid weight reduction. Which medication suits you, if any, is decided at your visit after assessment, not chosen from a list beforehand.

Where it connects to the rest of the practice
Significant weight loss frequently leaves skin laxity behind. If that becomes a concern, we can discuss whether non-surgical tightening will help — and we will tell you honestly when it will not and a surgical opinion is the right answer.
EmSculpt NEO is sometimes useful for preserving and rebuilding muscle during a weight-loss program.
What we will not do
We do not sell fixed-length packages, prescribe without assessment, or continue a medication that is not working for you.
If your situation needs an endocrinologist, a bariatric surgeon, or a dietitian rather than us, we will say so.
Where we treat
Medical weight management, answered plainly.
Do you prescribe weight loss medication?
Where it is clinically appropriate after assessment, yes. Any prescription is written and monitored by a physician, not dispensed on request. We do not advertise specific medications, because the right one depends entirely on your history, your labs, and what you have tried before.
Do I need bloodwork first?
Usually. Thyroid function, metabolic markers, and other labs frequently change what the right plan is.
How often will I be seen?
Monthly, with a physician. More often if something needs attention.
Is this covered by insurance?
Our visits and the programme itself are cash-pay — we do not bill insurance for them, and pricing is quoted before anything begins.
Prescriptions and laboratory work are separate. Medication is filled at your own pharmacy and labs are run by an outside laboratory, and depending on your plan those may be covered by your insurance. We write prescriptions and lab orders so you can use your benefits where they apply. Coverage varies a great deal between plans, so confirm it with your insurer before you assume it.
Medically supervised weight management generally qualifies as an eligible medical expense, so an FSA or HSA card can usually be used for the programme itself as well as for medication and labs.
What if I have loose skin afterwards?
We will assess it honestly. Mild laxity can respond to radiofrequency tightening; significant excess skin needs a surgical opinion, and we will tell you which you have.
