Emsella in Stone Oak, San Antonio
A non-invasive treatment for urinary incontinence and pelvic floor weakness. You stay fully clothed and sit in a chair for twenty-eight minutes.
What it treats
Stress incontinence — leaking when you cough, sneeze, laugh, or exercise. Urge incontinence. Pelvic floor weakness after childbirth or with age.
This is a medical problem that a large share of women live with silently for years. It is common, it is treatable, and it does not have to be managed with pads indefinitely.
How it works
The chair emits high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy that causes thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor contractions per session — far more than you could produce with Kegels, and correctly targeted, which most people doing Kegels are not.
You sit fully clothed. There is nothing invasive about it. Most people read or answer email while it runs.
It is common, it is treatable, and it does not have to be managed with pads indefinitely.
What to expect
Six sessions over three weeks, twice weekly. Many people notice change after the third; the full effect settles a few weeks after the course finishes.
Maintenance sessions once or twice a year hold the result for most patients.
Who it is not for
Emsella is not appropriate if you have metal implants in the pelvic region, a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, or if you are pregnant. Copper IUDs need discussion.
Incontinence can also have causes that need investigating rather than treating. Dr. Aguirre assesses before recommending a course, and will refer you to a urologist or urogynecologist where that is the right answer.
Where we treat
Emsella, answered plainly.
Do I have to undress?
No. You stay fully clothed and sit in the chair for the whole session.
Does it hurt?
No. You feel strong tingling and pelvic contractions. Most people describe it as odd rather than uncomfortable.
How many sessions?
Six over about three weeks. Maintenance once or twice a year afterwards for most patients.
When will I notice a difference?
Often after the third session, with the full effect a few weeks after finishing the course.
Who should not have it?
Anyone with metal pelvic implants, a pacemaker or implanted electronic device, or who is pregnant. We screen at consultation.
