Biometric Testing & Body Composition Scan in Stone Oak, San Antonio

A measured baseline — muscle mass, body fat, and hydration, segment by segment — so progress is tracked against data rather than the bathroom scale.

Why the scale is a poor instrument

Body weight is a single number that folds together muscle, fat, bone, and water. Someone who loses four pounds of fat and gains three of muscle sees the scale barely move and concludes nothing is working.

That is the most common reason people abandon a programme that is actually succeeding. A composition scan separates those numbers so you can see what genuinely changed.

What the scan measures

Total and segmental muscle mass — each arm, each leg, the trunk — along with body fat percentage, visceral fat, and hydration status. Segmental data matters because it shows asymmetry and tells you whether a treated area is responding.

Visceral fat, the fat around the organs rather than under the skin, is the number with the clearest link to metabolic health, and it is invisible in a mirror.

Losing four pounds of fat while gaining three of muscle barely moves the scale. That is why people quit programmes that are working.

Where it fits with treatment

If you are doing EmSculpt NEO®, this is how you find out whether abdominal muscle actually increased rather than relying on how a photograph looks. If you are in our weight management programme, it distinguishes fat loss from muscle loss — a critical difference during any rapid weight reduction, where losing lean mass is a real risk worth monitoring.

We scan at baseline and every four to eight weeks, and Dr. Aguirre — board certified in Family and Obesity Medicine — reviews the trend with you.

What it is not

A composition scan is a measurement tool, not a diagnosis. It does not screen for disease and it does not replace bloodwork or a physical.

Readings shift with hydration, recent meals, and exercise, so we standardise conditions — fasted, well hydrated, same time of day where possible. A single scan is a data point. The trend across several is the useful thing.

Common questions

Biometric testing & body scan, answered plainly.

How should I prepare?

Come fasted where you can, well hydrated, and skip lotion on the hands and feet. Avoid heavy exercise beforehand. Consistent conditions make the trend meaningful.

How often should I scan?

Baseline, then every four to eight weeks. Composition changes slowly, and scanning weekly mostly measures how much water you drank.

Is it the same as a DEXA scan?

No. DEXA is the research standard and involves a small radiation dose. This is bioimpedance-based — no radiation, faster, and highly consistent for tracking change over time in the same person.

Will it tell me if I am healthy?

No. It measures composition, not disease. It complements bloodwork and a physical rather than replacing either.

Do I need this if I am not doing another treatment?

Not necessarily, though a baseline is useful before any body or weight programme. We will tell you if it would not add anything for you.
