Laser Hair Removal in Stone Oak, San Antonio

Permanent reduction, not permanent removal — and we would rather tell you that up front. Our Nd:YAG platform treats deeper skin tones safely, which many devices cannot.

Reduction, not removal

The honest framing is permanent reduction. Most people finish a series with 70–90 percent less hair, finer and lighter than it was. A small amount returns over years, and an annual maintenance session handles it.

Anyone promising permanent removal is overselling. Hormones, genetics, and dormant follicles all keep some hair in play.

Who is holding the laser

Dr. Aguirre is a certified laser hair removal technician and performs these treatments herself. In most clinics the laser is operated by staff while a physician supervises from elsewhere, or from another building.

That matters because the settings are the treatment. Wavelength, fluence, pulse duration, and cooling all have to be matched to your skin type and hair, and adjusted if your skin responds unexpectedly mid-session. Getting it wrong on deeper skin causes burns and pigment change, and the person best placed to judge that is the person who can also assess the skin medically.

Why the device matters here

Most hair removal lasers target pigment, which means they can struggle to tell dark hair from dark skin. On the wrong device, deeper skin tones risk burns and pigment change.

An Nd:YAG has a longer wavelength that passes the epidermis and targets the follicle. It is the safest widely available option for Fitzpatrick IV through VI — a meaningful share of San Antonio, and a question worth asking any clinic before you book.

If a clinic has not asked about your skin type before booking you, that is the answer to your question.

Why six to eight sessions

Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only affects follicles in the active growth phase — roughly a fifth of them at any moment. Spacing sessions four to six weeks apart catches successive waves.

Sessions one and two show modest change. Most people see the result clearly around session four.

Before and after

Shave the area the day before — do not wax, pluck, or thread for four weeks, since the laser needs the follicle intact.

Avoid sun and self-tanner for two weeks on either side. Tanned skin changes how the device reads pigment and raises risk. In a San Antonio summer this is the constraint people underestimate.

Common questions

Laser hair removal, answered plainly.

Does it work on dark skin?

Yes, on the right device. We use a platform designed for deeper skin tones. Devices built around IPL or alexandrite are riskier for Fitzpatrick IV through VI.

Does it work on blonde, red, or grey hair?

Poorly. The laser targets pigment in the hair, and light hair does not have enough. We will tell you at consultation rather than sell you a package that will not work.

How much does it hurt?

Like a rubber band snap. Underarms and bikini are the most sensitive; legs and back are easy. Built-in cooling handles most of it.

Can I go in the sun afterward?

Not for two weeks, and use SPF 30 or higher after that. Sun exposure between sessions is the main reason results stall.

How far apart are sessions?

Four to six weeks for body, four for face. Coming in too early wastes a session because the follicles have not cycled.
