Microneedling in Stone Oak, San Antonio

For texture, pores, and acne scarring — the things that do not respond to injectables. It works by convincing your skin to rebuild its own collagen.

Controlled injury, deliberately

Fine needles create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. Each one triggers a healing response, and that response lays down new collagen and elastin. The result is your own tissue, remodeled.

That mechanism is why it is slow. You are not adding anything — you are asking your skin to rebuild, and it takes about three months to finish.

Where it beats the alternatives

For acne scarring, texture, and enlarged pores, microneedling outperforms almost everything short of ablative laser, at a fraction of the downtime.

It is also safe across every skin tone. Unlike many resurfacing lasers, it does not target pigment, so the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in deeper skin is far lower. For patients who have been turned away from laser resurfacing, this is usually the answer.

You are not adding anything. You are asking your skin to rebuild, and that takes about three months.

What goes on your skin during treatment

We do not use topical serums during treatment that are not formulated for open channels. Anything applied goes deep, and most cosmetic products — including some marketed for microneedling — were never tested for that.

This is worth asking any clinic. Applying a standard vitamin C serum into fresh channels is a common practice and a poor idea; the formulation matters more here than almost anywhere else in skincare.

The recovery

You will look sunburned for two to three days, with mild flaking after. Makeup goes back on at 24 hours.

Strict sun avoidance for a week. Freshly treated skin pigments easily, and in this climate that matters more than most people expect.

Common questions

Microneedling, answered plainly.

Is it safe for darker skin?

Yes. It does not target pigment, so the risk of hyperpigmentation is much lower than with most resurfacing lasers. It is often the right choice when laser is not.

How many sessions will I need?

Three to four spaced four weeks apart for most concerns. Deep acne scarring sometimes needs six.

Does it hurt?

Topical numbing is applied for thirty minutes first. Most people describe pressure and vibration rather than pain, with the forehead being most sensitive.

What is the downtime?

Two to three days looking sunburned, then light flaking. Makeup at 24 hours, exercise at 48.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Often yes. Microneedling pairs well with chemical peels and professional skincare across a series, though not in the same session. We will sequence it for you.
